MLA urges record turnout for 12th

The main Twelfth parade for north Down will be in Holywood this year.

Lodges and bands will be assembling in the Castle Street/Hamilton Road area from around 9.30am. The parade will start at 10am and proceed along Castle Street, Hamilton Road to Savoy Roundabout, Donagadee Road, High Street, Bridge Street, Lower Main Street, Upper Main Street and Abbey Street to the train station.

The main parade in Holywood at noon will proceed along High Street, Belfast Road, Abbey Ring, Demesne Road, Church View, Church Road, Brook Street, Victoria Road, High Street, Sullivan Place to Spafield Playing fields.

The return parade will commence at 4.30pm and Bangor District will parade back to the train via Sullivan Place and High Street. The return parade in Bangor is due start around 5.30pm and will proceed along Main Street, Bridge Street, High Street, Bingham Street, Mills Road and back to Hamilton Road Orange Hall.

MLA Peter Weir has urged local people to turn out in record numbers.

“This should be a great boon for Holywood, and I urge the traders of Holywood to fully embrace the opportunity.”

He said the Twelfth in north Down had always had a family friendly atmosphere, and urged people not to bring alcohol.
