The heat is on to find Britain and Ireland's brightest young chef following the launch of the 2008 Robbie Millar Scholarship.
Set up in memory of the North Down Michelin Star chef, the scholarship aims to help young chefs realise their potential and work with some of the world's greatest food and wine experts.
The scholarship is supported by some of Britain and Ireland's finest food and wine authorities including Richard Corrigan, Paul Rankin, Michael Deane, Neven Maguire, Nigel Haworth, Sean Hill, Kevin Thornton, Robert McDonald and Nick Nairn, all of whom were close friends of Millar's. Jane Boyce, master of wine and distinguished writer and broadcaster, will be joined by Dr Paul Megarity and James Nicholson Wine Merchant to judge the food and wine selections.
Shirley Millar said the scholarship had already become a fitting tribute to her husband: “The response to the inaugural year was overwhelming and speaks highly of the fondness with which Robbie is remembered.”
In 2007 the first Robbie Millar Scholar Chris McClurg took the opportunity to learn at some of the most prestigious restaurants and vineyards in London and France.
