The Moving Experiences conference, held at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum in Cultra, aimed to capture first-hand experiences and views of older people on transport issues affecting them.

The aim of Moving Experiences, which was hosted by Engage with Age, is to identify a number of measures which could eliminate many of the day-to-day problems that currently deter older people from using public transport and the pavements and roads in their locality.

Particular problems identified at the conference were the lack of car parking at bus stops and customer care in general.

Margy Washbrook, manager of Engage with Age said: “The ability to get out and about, to connect with local groups and communities is fundamental to older people’s mental and physical health and wellbeing.

“Public transport can play a crucial part in providing this link, but needs to be improved in a number of areas to give older people the confidence to use it.”
