Belvoir Park Primary School received a special visit from the Minister for Health, Michael McGimpsey, who came to view the work of the school’s social and communication centre.

The minister spoke to Mrs Kathryn Bonner, who is in charge of three speech and language therapists based in the school. He was impressed by the way the therapists and teachers worked in close co-operation.

Minister McGimpsey said: “It is important that we maximise the use of our resources within health and education to meet the individual needs of children in line with best practice.”

The therapists support pupils requiring specialist help with social, receptive and expressive language, both on an individual basis and within a small group setting at the school.

School head, Principal Billy Tate, praised the minister for the visit.

“I’m glad the facilities provided by Belvoir Park Primary School are getting the recognition they deserve,” said Principal Tate.
