College choir celebrates competition win

Methodist College Chapel Choir after winning All Island School Choir 2009

South Belfast’s Methodist College Chapel Choir has scooped the prestigious title of All Island School Choir 2009 and a £5,000 prize in the first competition of its kind.

The contest, involving schools from all over Ireland, was broadcast live on RTÉ One from the Ulster Hall on Sunday, November 15.

Methodist College Chapel Choir director Ruth McCartney said: “The Methody Chapel Choir were absolutely delighted to be in the final, singing in the beautifully refurbished Ulster Hall.

“The choir has been working very hard and we were all very excited about the final.”

Principal Scott Naismith added: “We're absolutely delighted to have won the competition. The standard of all the choirs was absolutely incredible. I know that Ruth McCartney and the pupils worked extremely hard to get the award.”
