Decision time on fees

Laganbank Sinn Féin councilor Deirdre Hargey has called for the Education and Learning Minister, Danny Kennedy, to rule out any increase in tuition fees following the announcement of the draft budget.

Councillor Hargey said: “There is no provision in the budget that would indicate an increase in tuition fees for students of third level education. The onus is now on the Minister to come forward once and for all and rule out, definitively, that any such increase is to take place within the north of Ireland.

“Education must be based on the ability to learn and not the ability to pay.”
