Finaghy kids have Giant guest

Kevin Phillips presents a jersey to children

South Belfast schoolchildren were put through their paces by a special visitor last week — a member of the Belfast Giants ice hockey team.

The Finaghy Primary School kids were shown how to warm-up, stretch, cool down and eat healthily by Giants’ star Kevin Phillips as part of the team’s Healthy Lifestyle Programme.

Kevin spoke about the importance of eating healthily and getting enough exercise, as well as what it’s like to be a Belfast Giant, including the daily training regime of a professional athlete and the importance that nutrition plays in their lives.

And before departing the Giants' hero left the school something to remember the team by — a jersey which has the design first used by the Giants when they were established 10 years ago, signed by the current team. The Belfast Giants aim to visit 100 schools around Northern Ireland to promote the Healthy Lifestyle Programme.
