South Belfast based band La Faro are set to play one of the UK’s biggest festivals next week — Reading and Leeds.

The local band will play the BBC Introducing stage as part of a bumper line-up, which includes The Libertines.

Guns N’ Roses and Arcade Fire are also among the headliners.

LaFaro are a four-piece heavy rock band from Belfast with members Jonny Black , Dave Magee, Herb Magee, and Alan Lynn.

They have been described as “old school post hardcore sounds with just drums, guitars and big chunky distorted bass, and Jonny Black mangling his vocals like he’s got a mouth full of drill bits” and have been hailed as one of the finest Irish Alt rock bands around.

They were once signed to Nottingham's Field Records, and while with the label released the well received LaFaro EP in 2006 containing the lead track Tupenny Nudger, the band has been voted BBC Northern Ireland Across the Line Local Act of the Year for the last two years running.

They have also played support slots for the likes of Ash, The Pogues, Oppenheimer, and Fighting With Wire as well as shows at the SXSW Festival 2007 in Texas.

They also contributed a new track, Mr Heskey, to the Oh Yeah Sessions '08 album — a showcase for local music recorded at Belfast's Oh Yeah music centre.

Tupenny Nudger was awarded the prestigious title of ‘Best Northern Irish song of the past 5 years' in a poll conducted by Alternative Ulster magazine, beating the likes of Snow Patrol and Ash.
