New chief in Castlereagh

A new full time chief executive has been assigned to Castlereagh borough council.

Following a recent recruitment procedure, the Mayor of Castlereagh, councillor Vivienne McCoy announced on Tuesday September 29, that the post has been filled by Stephen Reid.

Mr. Reid, who was unanimously offered the post by a selected panel of elected members, will join Castlereagh from North Down Borough Council where he has served as director of leisure, tourism and community services for 11 years.

Councillor McCoy said: "I look forward to Mr. Reid taking up post in the near future, and know that his wealth of experience will help the council continue to deliver high quality, efficient services, which provide value for money to the people of Castlereagh.

“I am confident that along with the experienced team we have already, and our new chief executive, we can build on our current successes and ensure Castlereagh has a promising future.”

The position was previously was filled for an interim period by existing council directors on a monthly rota basis.

The chief executive office is responsible for corporate and strategic planning, policy formulation and implementation, local government elections, public relations, performance review and management liaison with other agencies.
