Join the 1000 mile walk
The pitter-patter of thousands of feet will be competing with the birdsong in parks this week as Belfast City Council’s 1000 mile walk event gets underway.
The event takes place on Saturday, June 5, between 12noon and 2pm. The south Belfast parks taking part include: Musgrave; Ormeau; Waterworks; Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon and Botanic Gardens. It offers a chance for individuals to walk a mile each, helping to contribute to the 1,000 mile total across the city.

There will be a special night of community prayer for summer work in Knockbreda Parish church halls on Wednesday June 16 from 7.30pm to 9pm.
Born to prance
Dance, story, wit and legend, all rolled into one — this is comic dance theatre like you’ve never seen before.
Taking place on Friday June 4 at 7pm in
Castlereagh Borough Council Civic Centre, everyone is invited to come and see Anthea McWilliams tell her unique tale of turning 50 — where she set out to dance all the way from Malin Head in Co. Donegal to Mizen Head in Co. Cork.
Rumour has it that she’s writing a book of the experience, and remember it’s good to do a little dancing every day.

Belvoir Methodist Church will be hosting a summer sale to include a wide variety of events for people of all ages to enjoy.
The event takes place on Saturday June 19 and begins at 10.30am at the church on 63 Castledillon Road in the Belvoir Estate.
There will be many choices of goods ranging from children's clothes, cakes, groceries, books and toys together with an auction, penalty shoot out and face painting. Tea and coffee will be available as well as a barbecue later in the day.
Free English classes
If you are interested in brushing up your English language skills, you have the opportunity to attend a a free class with a qualified teacher.
Taking place every Wednesdayfrom 7pm to 9pm at the new drop-in centre in the former Ulsterville Presbyterian Church, Lisburn Road.

Brass band concert
Downshire Brass junior band is holding its end of year concert in the Paton Halls, Malone Presbyterian church, Lisburn Road on Monday June 7 at 8pm.
Members of the junior band are from schools in the local community. Downshire Brass senior band will also be playing at the concert which should be lively and entertaining.
Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
Model railway exhibition
Cooke Centenary Church will be hosting a railway themed weekend of family fun for model train enthusiasts and those new to the hobby.
On Friday June 11, from 7pm to 9pm and and Saturday June 12, from 10am to 4.30pm, the model railway exhibition will take place at the church halls on Park Road, BT7 2FY.
For those in the know 00 and N gauge train track layouts will be on display, alongside model shop and Royal Preservation Society of Ireland sale stands.
On the Saturday only, miniature steam rides will be taking place (subject to weather conditions— separate charge will apply). Refreshments are available. Admission: Adults £2.50, Concession/Child £1.50 and family (2 adults & 3 children)£6.
Depression support group
If you or anyone you know, suffers from stress, anxiety or depression they are welcome to join the new daytime support group that meets every Tuesday morning from 10.30am to 12 noon at Aware Defeat Depression 123 -137 York Street, Belfast. Depression is a very common illness which affects someone in every family —one in four.
To take advantage of the help available, just turn up to the support group, as booking is not necessary. All new members are given a welcome pack and there is no obligation to join in unless you want to.

Paint a picture
PS2 Gallery are hosting free drawing workshops as part of their latest exhibition in which they will transform their gallery space into a bountiful plant marketstall.
Drawing material will be provided at each workshop that are to take place from 12am to 3pm every Saturday in June. The workshops are part of a month long exhibition in which Lee’s flower stall at St George’s market will be transported to the gallery to recognise the long tradition of flower painting in art history.
Those taking part may take a plant in exchange for their completed drawing or watercolour of their chosen flower and plant it at home. PS2 will keep the representation of the plant which will later be on display in St George’s market later in the year.
The exhibition begins Friday June 4 and runs until Saturday July 4. opening hours: Tuesday to friday, 1pm to 5pm, Saturday, 11am to 3pm.
