Good sports - Minister praises World Police and Fire Games sports coordinators

Stormont press release - Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure

Sports Minister Carál Ní Chuilín has praised the World Police and Fire Games sporting coordinators at a reception in Stormont

The specialist volunteers - who managed competitors, officials and support staff at each of the 56 sporting events - were a key part of the delivery of the Games in August.

The Minister said: “Your passion, enthusiasm and professionalism helped make the World Police and Fire Games such a memorable occasion.

“I had the pleasure of meeting many of you during the Games, and am now pleased to be formally acknowledging your contribution.

“I have heard stories of late nights, early mornings and efforts above and beyond the call of duty. This illustrates the work that goes on behind the scenes of such a large world class event.

“More than 7,000 competitors from 67 countries have taken their experiences back home to countries across the globe. Your work resonated with spectators, and for those 10 days in August you were ambassadors for your sports, your communities and yourselves.

“Thank you for giving so generously of your time and talents. I hope you have taken a sense of achievement, accomplishment and pride from your role in the Games. As Minister, I applaud the vital part you played in this landmark occasion.”
