Belfast Telegraph award for retiring Arts Council chair Bob Collins
The retiring chair of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland has been recognised for his "significant" contribution to the sector here.
Bob Collins was awarded the Belfast Telegraph Spirit of Festival award during the closing night of the Ulster Bank Belfast International Arts Festival at the MAC on Saturday.
He served as chairman for five years before his retirement this month.
The organisation said he was a "committed and steadfast defender" of the principle of supporting artists.
Arts Council chief executive Roisin McDonough described him as "inspirational".
"A chairman may preside over an organisation for only a relatively short time," she said. "But in his time with us, Bob Collins has made a really positive mark on the shape of local arts that will endure well into the future."
Mr Collins was previously a chief commissioner of the Equality Commission and a former director general of RTE.
