Diners have named a Belfast seafood eatery as their favourite restaurant in Northern Ireland.
Readers of the Good Food Guide voted for Mourne Seafood Bar in the city centre in the magazine’s annual poll to find the restaurant of the year.
Nestled in Bank Street next to Kelly’s Cellars, Mourne Seafood Bar was opened in 2006 by Andy Rea, who worked with celebrity chef Paul Rankin for 10 years. The Bank Street bistro — and sister restaurants in Newcastle and Dundrum — have won legions of loyal followers with its competitively-priced fruits of the sea and an unpretentious approach to dining.
Over 20,000 people voted in the restaurant of the year poll, established to recognise excellence and good service at independently-owned restaurants, pubs and cafés across the UK.
Mourne Seafood Bar now joins nine other regional winners, including Glasgow’s Ubiquitous Chip, to compete for the overall restaurant of the year title, which will be announced on June 9 at a ceremony at the British Museum.

“Mourne Seafood Bar is a great seafooder, with a blackboard menu and all shellfish sourced from the restaurant’s own shellfish beds.”
Last year’s local winner was Holywood’s Bay Tree restaurant.
