Belfast restaurant James Street South has been named Readers' Restaurant of the Year for Northern Ireland in the Waitrose Good Food Guide 2015.

The Belfast city centre venue, which is headed up by chef Niall McKenna and his wife Joanne, has been in business for 10 years.

According to James Street South's website, it specialises in seasonal produce "cooked with classic French technique and flair".

More than 30,000 members of the public submitted nominations for their favourite restaurants in the awards.

Niall McKenna said: "We're thrilled that customers have taken time to vote us Best Restaurant in Northern Ireland and we're so pleased that our focus on quality, innovative cooking, locally-sourced produce, great staff and a warm ambiance have made such an impression."

Elizabeth Carter, consultant editor of The Good Food Guide, described the venue's "fabulous flavours and fine produce" and called it one of Belfast's best restaurants.

"It's complemented by first-rate staff, a stylish dining room that revels in its relaxed atmosphere – what's not to love?"

She added: "Once again Niall McKenna and his team deserve the award."

James Street South is the second Belfast restaurant to receive a UK-wide accolade in the last week after Lisburn Road's Shu claimed the Best Restaurant in Northern Ireland title for the third year in a row at the 2014 National Restaurant Awards.

Hat-trick joy as Shu is named best restaurant... again
