Pit stop: It's a pizza the action well worth sampling
Friday, 18 May 2007
Where?
The blue print pizza Co, 92 Stranmillis Road, Belfast.
Atmosphere?
The blue print pizza Co is situated along the Stranmillis Road and is a
fully licensed restaurant and coffee bar.
Customers have the
option of dining al fresco at one of the many tables out front, but as it
was raining when we visited we scurried past - as inviting as this seemed -
to seek shelter inside. The interior has a contemporary style of decor with
a long, narrow dining area which has wooden floors, pine-coloured wooden
tables and wooden panelling along one wall. It is well lit with unobtrusive
background music and is a relaxing and comfortable place in which to enjoy a
meal.
Crowd?
There was a small crowd of mixed ages from couples to families with young children.
Menu?
The menu was nothing if not comprehensive. There were
around 11 starters including prawn cocktail, chicken goujons, stuffed
mushrooms, mozzarella potato skins and a starter medley.
There
were approximately 15 pizzas to choose from ranging from the ever popular
Margherita, Napolitano with mozzarella, tomato, anchovy, capers and olives,
Cajun chicken, Hawaii, and American Hot to an all day breakfast pizza.
There was also a selection of extra toppings should you wish to customise your
meal.
Aside from this, there were home-made steak burgers, salmon
fishcakes, lasagne, cannelloni and Italian meatballs. The side orders and
salads section included French fries, potato wedges, tomato and mozzarella
salad, green salad and a bacon and avocado salad.
What did we have?
I had the all-day breakfast pizza with
mozzarella, fresh tomato, bacon, mushrooms and egg. My friend had the 8oz
home-made steak burger with onions, gherkin, melted cheddar cheese and
French fries.
Disability access
The restaurant is at street level so
access should be no problem.
The verdict?
I was intrigued by the variation of an Ulster
fry so opted for the all-day breakfast pizza.
My curiosity was
amply rewarded as the pizza was delicious - a thin, crispy base topped with
slices of fresh tomato, slivers of salty bacon, mushrooms and an egg, sunny
side up, in the middle.
My friend said that the steak burger was
very tasty and not bland, wasn't over-garnished and the thin cut French
fires were suitably dry with just the right amount of crunch.
The
staff were very helpful and service was quick and efficient.
The bill?
All-day breakfast 7.50; home-made steak burger
£7.75; Two x Coca Cola £2.60. Total: £17.85.
Last word?
A pizza success.
