The stars of Game of Thrones descended on historic Crumlin Road Gaol on Friday ahead of the show's exhibition at Titanic Belfast.

Some of the most recognisable faces in television made it along, and they were joined by Oscar-winning actor Ben Kinsgley.

As they stopped on the red carpet to speak to the Press, the actors raved about Northern Ireland as a filming location, with one — Maisie Williams aka Arya Stark — even hailing Belfast's clothing stores as “out of this world”.

Fresh from the success of Good Vibrations, local actor Richard Dormer, who plays Beric Dondarrion on the hit HBO show which nears the end of its third series, said he was delighted to finally be able to use the sword fighting he learned at drama school.

“I studied sword fighting at drama school for about three years,” Dormer said. “It was great to finally put it to good use. I love playing Beric. He is such a dude.

“It is great to see such a large-scale and successful production being filmed in Northern Ireland,” the Lisburn man said.

Fellow local actor Kristian Nairn said he loves filming in the Northern Irish countryside and revealed he hasn't read the books but joked he has Wikipedia so is up to speed with the plot.

“My mother is also a huge fan and tells me what is going to happen. I want to explore my character so much more — find out whey he doesn't speak and why he is so big. I am so proud that this show is filmed here. Where else can you be in a city and ten minutes later be looking at beautiful countryside. My favourite place to film was Cairncastle,” he said.

Irish actor Liam Cunningham who plays Davos Seaworth said he he loves filming here.

“Filming on Benone beach was wonderful. It is such a beautiful place and it felt like you had the whole beach to yourself,” the Dubliner said.

So, what can we expect from the's exhibition? The Belfast Telegraph went along to the preview.

On show is a huge selection of beautifully designed garments, a vast armoury of weapons and myriad other props — even a full-size replica of the iron throne, the Seven Kingdom’s very seat of power. Severed limbs have even made it into the display, including the head of Sean Bean’s Ned Stark.

HBO’s international marketing director Elana Lowenthal said: “The exhibit is for fans of the books and viewers of the show and the challenge for us was to marry what the die-hard fans know of the the folklore from the novels to the fantasy world shown in the series. It’s really a soap opera cloaked in a fantasy world.”
