3D release steers Titanic past $2bn

James Cameron with Titanic leading lady Kate Winslet

James Cameron has shored up his position as king of the worldwide box office.

Cameron's 1997 blockbuster Titanic - starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio - sailed beyond the two billion US dollar mark in lifetime ticket sales, thanks to a 3D re-release of the film that was timed to the centennial of the ship's sinking.

Only one other movie has topped the two billion mark, and it's also one of Cameron's. His 2009 sci-fi smash Avatar earned 2.8 billion dollars worldwide.

The Titanic reissue took in about 100 million dollars this weekend - 11.6 million in the US and a whopping 88.2 million in 69 overseas markets. That included a 58 million debut in China and put the re-release total worldwide at 190.8 million.

Added to the film's 1.84 billion dollar haul in its original release, Titanic now stands at 2.03 billion dollars worldwide.

Gemini:

Someone will steal credit for your work, which is maddening. Drawing attention to the problem will only make you look petty. You're better off accepting the situation with quiet dignity and grace. Move on to the next assignment, but make sure to sign your name to every piece of work that is submitted. Tell your boss what you are doing on a regular basis. You'll sound like a pest, but at least it's better than getting stabbed in the back.More
