Actor James Nesbitt has joined with drama school Bright Young Things (BYT) to launch a scholarship programme for disadvantaged children.

The programme will award two young people from Northern Ireland with a full year's membership to BYT.

Bright Young Things founder Lisa Duffy and Nesbitt, who is a patron, will both be following the progress of the students closely. The scholarships, which are available to children aged between three and 18, will be based in Magherafelt and Belfast.

Nesbitt said: "It gives me great pleasure to support the BYT scholarship programme. Drama and performing arts training from an early age can be key in developing personality and confidence."
