Amy Adams has revealed her role in Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master marked a high point in her career.

The 38-year-old earned her fourth Oscar nomination in eight years for her part as the steely wife of a cult leader in the movie.

And speaking on the red carpet at an event in her honour at the Santa Barbara film festival, Amy lavished praise on the "visionary" director.

"It's kind of a career high," she explained.

"He's such a visionary and such an artist, and he had such a specific vision for this role and for this film, and I was just proud to be a part of it."

The Muppets star was joined by Anderson as she was awarded the Cinema Vanguard Award at the festival, following in the footsteps of previous recipients Nicole Kidman, Ryan Gosling and Jean Dujardin.
