Akerman for Debbie Harry role?

Malin Akerman could take on the role of Debbie Harry in CBGB

Malin Akerman is rumoured to be playing Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry in musical biopic CBGB.

The Watchmen actress, who next stars in Rock Of Ages, is in the frame to portray the punk icon in Randall Miller's indie drama, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Harry Potter stars Rupert Grint and Alan Rickman are thought to be on board as club owner Hilly Kristal and Dead Boys guitarist Cheetah Chrome, a punk bad who played a crucial role in CBGB's success, respectively.

Castle actress Stana Katic is tipped for the role of Genya Ravan, lead singer of Goldie & The Gingerbreads, and Avatar actor Joel David Moore could play the late Joey Ramone.

The film, which has been co-written by Randall and his Bottle Shock writer Jody Savin, is set to look at the rise of the famous New York nightclub, which opened in 1973 and closed its doors in 2006, and its impact on the underground punk and new wave movement.

Shooting is expected to begin in Savannah, Georgia and New York from June.
