All You Need Is Kill needs Cruise
Tom Cruise has apparently agreed to star in sci-fi movie All You Need Is Kill.
The film has been in production for some time and Variety reports it could now be off the ground after Mr & Mrs Smith director Doug Liman persuaded the Mission Impossible star to come on board.
The story is based on a graphic novel about a soldier who dies in a war against aliens, only to find himself reliving his last day over and over again. Doing battle and being killed again and again trains him to become a better soldier.
Sources claim the script was originally written for a younger actor such as Ryan Reynolds or Joseph Gordon Levitt, but Warner Bros has had it rewritten so the character fits Cruise's age.
Cruise reportedly liked the script so much that Doug visited the actor on the set of his movie One Shot in Pittsburgh to discuss the role.
The Hollywood star is due to film Universal sci-fi movie Oblivion in March and was apparently concerned about doing two sci-fi projects back-to-back.
But Doug assured the actor the films would both be very different, and smoothed out any scheduling issues.
Filming will begin in the later half of 2012.
