Alvarez inspired by rental employee
Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez has revealed he was inspired by the guy who worked in the video shop where he first rented the original movie as a youngster.
The 35-year-old filmmaker has made his feature debut with the remake of Sam Raimi's classic 1981 gory horror movie about five friends who unwittingly summon evil demons while staying in a remote cabin in the woods.
Posters for the new film, starring Jane Levy, boast: "The most terrifying film you will ever experience."
Fede revealed: "When I saw the original Evil Dead it was definitely the most terrifying experience ever, and the label is based on a quote that I took from the guy that gave me Evil Dead when I rented the movie for the first time. He gave me the movie and said 'This is going to be the most terrifying experience you'll ever have.'
"And that's why when we decided to make this film we said we had to aim for that, and of course it's up to the audience to decide."
The Uruguayan director confessed he saw the gory horror film when he was only 12.
He said: "It was so disturbing! I saw it in 1990. I was 12 and it was a really, really disturbing. It was the scariest stuff I ever saw back then, and that's why I wanted to recreate that on this film."
