American Psycho TV show in works

Plans for a TV spin-off of American Psycho have been announced by FX and Lionsgate.

Christian Bale starred as psychopathic businessman Patrick Bateman in the 2000 cult film based on Bret Easton Ellis' 1991 novel of the same name.

The TV drama will feature Bateman, now in his mid-50s but still just as outrageous and lethal as ever. He will take on a protege in a sadistic social experiment to create the next generation American Psycho - which could become his undoing.

No actors are officially attached to the project yet, Variety reported.

Lionsgate had previously announced plans for a remake of the iconic film in 2011. And a flop sequel, American Psycho 2: All American Girl, starring Mila Kunis and William Shatner, was released in 2002.
