Gemma Arterton lit up the red carpet at the premiere of her new film The Voices in a sparkly nude dress as she confessed she finds herself drawn to darker and darker roles.

The former Bond girl stars in the black comedy with Ryan Reynolds which was showing as part of the Sundance London Film Festival at the O2 Cineworld.

Green Lantern star Ryan plays a disturbed single man who takes advice from his talking cat and dog, both voiced by the actor himself.

Gemma plays a girl at his work who catches his eye, and comes to a grizzly end in the indie film.

She confessed: "I love all things bizarre and dark but I never ever get offered things like that.

"So I read it and thought, 'This is the sort of thing that I love'. I thought it was so funny and very moving.

"And then when Ryan came on board I just thought 'wow!' Just watching him on set was like 'wow!'

"He's incredible in this movie, it's one of his best performances. He's just so easy to work with, it's a hard part to play and he just did it with such grace, really top class."

Ryan revealed he was delighted to attend Sundance London and is about to start shooting a film in the capital with Dame Helen Mirren.

The Canadian heartthrob said: "I missed the other Sundance this year 'cause I was ill. So I really wanted to be here and support the film, and put my mark on it in any way I can.

"And there's no greater place to come than London. It sure as hell beats minus 30 and three feet of snow in Utah (where the Sundance Festival is held), so I was thrilled to come out.

"I live in New York, so it was easy and I'm about to shoot here for six weeks so it sort of all worked out beautifully. I'm privileged to be here.

"I'm about to start a movie called Woman In Gold here in London with Helen Mirren.

"It's contemporary and period, it goes back and forth between 1998 and 1930."

Ryan admitted he was yet to meet Dame Helen, adding: "But in a word - hot!"
