Ashley Judd will join the cast of sci-fi flick Divergent.
She has taken one of the last major roles available on the film adaptation of Veronica Roth's best-selling futuristic book, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Ashley, 44, will play the mother of the main character, played by The Descendants' actress Shailene Woodley.
Divergent follows a young woman living in a future world where people are divided into factions based on their personalities, but when she finds out she doesn't fit with any of the factions she must stop a war between them.
Ashley's character watches her two children join different factions as tensions between them rise.
Olympus Has Fallen actress Ashley will join the film which has just started shooting in Chicago.
She recently considered running for Senate, but decided not to so that she could spend more time with her family.
Ashley has directed one of five shorts for TV channel Lifetime's Call Me Crazy, produced by Jennifer Aniston and Kristin Hahn and airing on April 20.
Divergent is a Summit/Lionsgate project and is being directed by Neil Burger.
Ashley can be seen later this year in The Identical, a film about a musical family from the Be Bop 1950s through to the Glam Rock 1970s.
