Bardem embarrassed by star honour

Javier Bardem said he was thrilled to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Javier Bardem has climbed into the next echelon of Hollywood royalty - by getting a star on the Walk of Fame.

The Oscar-winning Spanish star, who plays Bond baddie Raoul Silva in new 007 film Skyfall, admitted he never dreamt of getting the American honour, reported ABC 7 News.

"Javier Bardem Day. That's so cool. And what's that like? Does everyone have to walk with a broken nose around Hollywood Boulevard?" he joked as he unveiled the star.

"Thank you so much. I am really embarrassed. It's an incredible honour. All I wanted to do was work professionally as an actor. And now, to be here, to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is an honour I never thought I would ever receive," he added.

Javier, who made his big-screen debut when he was six years old, was joined by Skyfall director Sam Mendes and co-stars Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe at the ceremony. His wife Penelope Cruz was not in attendance.

Sam revealed that the actor was "so embarrassed" to be receiving such an honour, before praising him for his talent and commitment to each part.

"He respects the art of acting. He's a craftsman and a storyteller, and he believes in it as an art form and that is very moving, particularly now," the filmmaker said.

"For me, he's part of the great tradition that includes Brando and Burton. He's our Brando and our Burton for this generation."
