Bardem to be a Despicable villain

Javier Bardem is being linked to a role in the Despicable Me sequel

Javier Bardem could be set for a villainous turn in Despicable Me 2.

Four years after his Oscar-winning performance as sociopathic hitman in No Country For Old Men, the Spanish star is in talks to voice a character named El Macho in the highly anticipated sequel, reported Heat Vision blog.

The new dad, who welcomed a son with wife Penelope Cruz in January, will take his fatherly duties into the animated role, with a screen son named Machito.

Steve Carell is set to reprise his role as a villainous mastermind in the follow-up, along with most of the voice actors from the original 2010 film such as Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews and Will Arnett.

Plot details for the sequel, set for a 2013 release, are being kept under wraps.
