Javier Bardem is apparently in final negotiations to star in the adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series.
The Oscar-winning Spanish hunk will play The Gunslinger Roland of Gilead in Universal's film trilogy and TV series based on King's series of sci fi books, Deadline reports.
Ron Howard is directing the first film in the series from a script written by Akiva Goldsman.
Ron previously revealed Mad Men's John Hamm, James Bond actor Daniel Craig, X-Men's Hugh Jackman and The Lord of the Rings' Viggo Mortensen were among those in talks for the role, but now Javier is hotly tipped to be cast.
Akiva wrote the screenplays for Batman And Robin, I, Robot and I Am Legend and has also previously worked with Ron, writing the scripts for Cinderella Man, A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code and Angels And Demons - all directed by Ron.
Akiva and Ron will also work together on the first TV segment of the adaptation.
Production on the first film is due to star in September.
