Barrymore to direct apocalypse film

Drew Barrymore is to take the director's chair once more

Drew Barrymore is to direct apocalypse movie The End.

The Never Been Kissed star will not take a role in the film, as she did in her directorial debut Whip It, about a female roller derby team, but will remain behind the camera, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The End, written by Aron Eli Coleite who worked on TV show Heroes, will be an ensemble cast film which takes an uplifting view of the end of the world, following multiple storylines as different people live out what they know will be their last day on earth.

Characters will include a London radio DJ in their 60s who is intent on broadcasting until the end, a father trying to make it through the chaos in Tokyo to reach his wife and child and a teenage couple in the American Midwest in danger of being separated by their families.

Former child star Drew, 37, married art consultant Will Kopelman in June and is currently pregnant with her first child.

She is also attached to direct and produce young-adult thriller Heist Society and rom com How To Be Single.
