BBC1 documentary tracks Anthony Joshua's rise to boxing stardom

Cameras have been following the IBF heavyweight champion for the last two years.

Viewers are being invited into the dressing room of Anthony Joshua in a behind-the-scenes documentary on the British boxing star.

Cameras have been following the IBF heavyweight champion for the last two years for the BBC1 film, which will air later this month.

It will show the 27-year-old in his “dressing room, hotels, at home and in training before and after fights”, and preparing for his April 29 encounter with challenger Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium.

Alison Kirkham, BBC controller of factual commissioning and events, said: “This revealing documentary shares the untold story of the commitment it takes to become the very best.”

Tony Pastor, executive producer of Goalhanger Films, said the film was a “brilliant insight into the life of a modern sportsman as he masters his trade”.

“When we first discussed this project with him he was a long way from being world champion, but meeting Anthony, and watching those early fights, convinced me he was going to become a superstar and we wanted to film his progress to the top,” he said.

The 60-minute film, Anthony Joshua: The Road To Klitschko, will be shown on BBC1 on April 25 at 10.45pm.
