Beatty makes filmmaking return

Warren Beatty, pictured with wife Annette Bening, is set to return to directing

Warren Beatty is set to make a return to the film industry to direct a new movie.

The Oscar-winning star, who last helmed Bulworth in 1998, is reported to be partnering with Paramount Pictures to write, direct, produce and star in an untitled project based on his original screenplay.

"Warren's script is quintessential Beatty, elegantly written and wonderfully entertaining. It is our privilege to have one of the great artists in the history of the film industry come home to Paramount," studio chairman and CEO Brad Grey told the Hollywood Reporter.

Warren, who previously directed 1978's Heaven Can Wait and Reds in 1981 for the studio, will start filming later this year.

Since Bulworth, for which he received an Oscar nomination, he has starred in romantic comedy Town & Country with Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton, and appeared in two documentaries.
