Beckinsale is slinky on red carpet

Kate Beckinsale plays villain Lori in the Total Recall remake

Kate Beckinsale slid along the red carpet in a sexy snakeskin print Armani gown at the premiere of her new film Total Recall in Los Angeles.

The Underworld star plays villain Lori - the part played by Sharon Stone in the original movie - in the remake written and directed by husband Len Wiseman, who accompanied her on the red carpet.

Meanwhile, Jessica Biel, who plays heroine rebel agent Melina in the film, and does battle with Kate's character, looked demure in a baby pink Dior dress reminiscent of Grace Kelly.

Colin Farrell, who stars as hero Doug Quaid, was joined by his sister Claudine Farrell at the premiere on Hollywood Boulevard.

He told Reuters that while the reboot shares some similarities with the 1990 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone, he promised a new ending.

Colin said: "The name of the film, the character's name, a lot of the plot points are the same, some of the lines are lifted from the original. The third act is completely different and the tone of the film is completely different. But, hopefully it justifies its existence and the two hours of entertainment that we made it to be."

And Kate insisted she wasn't bothered about taking over the role from Sharon Stone.

"I honestly don't think about it," she said. "When you are an actress making a movie you meet your character on the page ... and I think we knew we were making such a totally different movie anyway. It's important to focus on this one, there is so much original stuff in our movie."

Other celebrity guests at the premiere included Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne with their son Jack and his fiancee Lisa Stelly.
