Annette Bening could be starring in music-themed drama Imagine alongside Al Pacino, according to reports.

The four-time Oscar nominee is said to be in talks to join the directorial debut from Crazy, Stupid, Love writer Dan Fogelman, said The Hollywood Reporter.

Pacino, who has been attached to the film, is reportedly "in the process of closing his deal" to star as an ageing rocker, who decides to change his life after finding a letter written to him by the late John Lennon.

Annette, who gave a highly acclaimed performance in The Kids Are All Right, is tipped to play the love interest for his character, a role which her Kids Are All Right co-star Julianne Moore was previously linked to.

Bobby Cannavale is also in negotiations to sign on as Pacino's screen son, a part Jeremy Renner was once linked to.

Shooting for Imagine, which Dan also wrote, is scheduled to begin in July.

Annette, who was last seen in Ruby Sparks and Ginger And Rosa, will next star in comedy Girl Most Likely (formerly known as Imogene) with Kristen Wiig and Matt Dillon, and Look Of Love alongside Robin Williams.

Bobby, who has appeared in Boardwalk Empire, will appear in the Linda Lovelace biopic Lovelace and is in talks to join Jon Favreau in his upcoming film Chef.
