Berry's concerns over Aretha role

Halle Berry isn't sure about playing Aretha Franklin

Halle Berry has doubts about playing legendary singer Aretha Franklin in an upcoming biopic.

The Monster's Ball Oscar winner has been tipped for the leading role by the Queen of Soul herself, but Halle isn't ready to sign on.

"I can't sing! If I could carry a tune, I'd consider it," she told E!'s Ryan Seacrest.

"Someone should tell Aretha that I can't do her justice."

Aretha has made no secret of which leading lady she would like to portray her adult self on the big screen.

"Halle Berry is my pick," she said on The Wendy Williams Show.

The Respect diva also wanted Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington and Oscar nominee Terrence Howard to appear in the film, which would be based on her 1999 autobiography Aretha: From These Roots.

The 68-year-old had apparently been in touch with the trio, saying that they were "enthusiastic about the project and have agreed to take on these roles, subject to further negotiation".
