Best Exotic Marigold 2 confirmed

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is to reopen for a sequel, Penelope Wilton has confirmed.

The actress played pessimistic Jean in the hit 2011 film and has told the Radio Times that the cast are heading back out to India to film the sequel in January.

She said: "We had a wonderful time shooting this film the first time and I am thrilled we will be going back in January to do another one. As far as I know everybody will be returning."

It will pick up the story again about a group of UK pensioners who move to a retirement hotel in India and returning stars, as well as Penelope, include Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, Celia Imrie and Ronald Pickup.

Dame Judi has also confirmed: "I'm going back to India to do the sequel to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel."

Tom Wilkinson will not return as his character died in the first film and it is not known whether Dev Patel will pick up his role as the hotel manager.

At the end of the first film, Maggie Smith's character Muriel took over the hotel, but details of the new project are being kept tightly under wraps.
