Black wants Bernie on Broadway

Jack Black wants to take Bernie to Broadway

Jack Black has revealed how he and Shirley MacLaine want to make their new dark comedy Bernie into a Broadway musical.

The School Of Rock funnyman stars in the true story of Bernie Tiede, a smalltown funeral director who formed an unlikely friendship with mean but wealthy widow Marjorie Nugent, played by Shirley.

Bernie was so loved by the community and Nugent was so hated that when Bernie snapped and murdered her, the townspeople rallied round him in support.

Jack revealed: "Shirley had an idea we should turn this into a musical for Broadway! Me and Shirley! That would be amazing..."

He added: "She's an incredible legend. She had great stories of Hollywood of old, and we joked around on set a lot. I'd love to work with her again."

The actor and frontman of comedy rock band Tenacious D performs Gospel songs in the film, as Bernie was director of the local choir.

He revealed: "I'd never listened to gospel, I didn't know that world, and the songs were amazing. We spent a lot of time just listening to tons of gospel and finding the songs that I could sing the best and that fit best with the story. That was a big part of the movie."

:: Bernie is released in cinemas on Friday, April 26.

Don't get involved with a hidden intrigue. The drama will be exciting at first, but eventually you will tire of keeping secrets. If someone is interested in you romantically, you shouldn't have to sneak around together. An oppressive work situation may tempt you to quit your job. Try not to discuss your plans with colleagues. You don't want a rival to tell your employer about your resignation until you're ready to tender it. Protect your interests at all costs.More
