Blythe gets Nice Work on Broadway

Blythe Danner will play Matthew Broderick's mother on Broadway

Blythe Danner has been recruited by Broadway show Nice Work If You Can Get It.

The Meet The Parents star will play the mother of Matthew Broderick's wealthy playboy character.

Blythe will take over the role from Academy Award-winner Estelle Parsons on December 18 and star in the show for 12 weeks until March 10.

The 69-year-old actress - who is the mother of Gwyneth Paltrow - won a Tony Award in 1970 for her Broadway debut in Butterflies Are Free.

Nice Work If You Can Get It, which also stars Kelli O'Hara, was written by Joe DiPietro and uses classic Gershwin songs, including Sweet And Lowdown, Let's Call the Whole Thing Off, S'Wonderful, and Fascinating Rhythm.

The director and choreographer is Kathleen Marshall, who also made the hit Anything Goes.
