Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence have been cast in the lead roles in period piece Serena, it's been reported.
Angelina Jolie had previously been attached to star in the big-screen adaptation of Ron Rash's novel, with Darren Aronofsky to direct, but according to Vulture, Oscar-winning filmmaker Susanne Bier will now be taking control.
It could be a reunion for the two stars, who will next be appearing in David O Russell's upcoming drama The Silver Linings Playbook.
They are tipped to play newlyweds George and Serena Pemberton who, in 1929, set out to build a timber empire in North Carolina.
Their successful and ruthless reign hits the rocks when Serena, described as a Lady Macbeth-type character, realises her inability to bear children, which sets her on a deadly vendetta against George's illegitimate son.
Shooting is scheduled to begin soon.
Jennifer next stars in The Hunger Games alongside Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, while Bradley has Paradise Lost and a possible Hangover follow-up.
