Bradley Cooper to play Elephant Man
Bradley Cooper is taking some time out from heartthrob roles to play The Elephant Man on stage.
The actor - who was voted People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive last year - will portray John Merrick, whose deformity made him famous in Victorian London, in a production in the US this summer.
Bradley, who has starred in romantic comedies such as He's Just Not That Into You and Valentine's Day, previously played Merrick at drama school, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Hangover star will share the stage with Oscar nominee Patricia Clarkson when the production opens at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in July.
The Pieces Of April actress will play the woman who becomes friends with Merrick during his hospital stay.
