Branagh targeted for Jack Ryan film

Kenneth Branagh is apparently in talks to direct the new Jack Ryan film.

The Oscar-nominated star of My Week With Marilyn, who directed Thor, is considering taking control of the upcoming reboot, following Jack Bender's exit, reported Vulture.

Chris Pine is set to take over the franchise to play the CIA agent hero of Tom Clancy's spy thriller novels in a new and untitled film, which is set in the present day.

The search for a screenwriter to pen the script is under way, with Spider-Man's David Koepp apparently a frontrunner.

Paramount hope to get cameras rolling in September once Chris completes work on JJ Abrams' Star Trek sequel, for a scheduled release in 2013 or 2014.

Jack Ryan was the hero of The Hunt For Red October, when he was played by Alec Baldwin, Patriot Games and Clear And Present Danger, which starred Harrison Ford, and The Sum of All Fears, starring Ben Affleck.
