Brosnan gives tips on Making Love

Pierce Brosnan will play a Cambridge university professor in the racy film

Pierce Brosnan is to play a sex-obsessed lothario in romantic comedy How To Make Love Like An Englishman.

The former Bond star has been cast in Tom Vaughan's "sexually charged and sophisticated" movie alongside Jessica Alba and Kristin Scott Thomas, reported Collider.

Pierce, who will also co-produce the film through his Irish DreamTime company, will portray a Cambridge University professor who meets his match in Kristin and is forced to re-evaluate his life after getting her sister (played by Jessica) pregnant.

The 59-year-old Irishman said: "This has long been a passion project for (producing partner) Beau St Clair and me. We are so thrilled that the project has come together with this illustrious group of actors and filmmakers."

Beau added: "This has an appealing blend of sex, style and sophisticated humour. On one level, it is a fascinating study of a man who hides his total fear of love behind completely outrageous behaviour."

Production on the film, which will be pitched to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival, is scheduled to begin in September.

Producer Grant Cramer said: "This a sexy, fun adult comedy that we feel fills a huge need in the marketplace. It's also a perfect chance for Pierce, Kristin and Jessica to misbehave through deliciously drawn characters."

Pierce, who stars in bilingual romantic drama Love Is All You Need, will next appear with Toni Collette in the big-screen version of Nick Hornby's book A Long Way Down and spy thriller November Man alongside Dominic Cooper.

He's also attached to the role of French king Louis XIV in fantasy-adventure The Moon And The Sun.
