Bullock in Australia for premiere

Sandra Bullock has said the success of her new film The Heat is down to a "chemical thing" between her and co-star Melissa McCarthy.

Speaking as she hit the red carpet for the film's premiere in Australia, the Hollywood star said she and Bridesmaids actress Melissa were a perfect partnership as a comedy cop duo.

"We had two weeks to figure out how to work together and it just worked. Our styles being so different and our characters being so different, somehow it just worked and meshed really well," she told Sydney Confidential.

Sandra, who looked dazzling in a short Emilio Pucci dress, said she had experienced such chemistry with co-stars before.

"It is a timing thing, a chemical thing," she explained.

The actress got a big welcome from fans as she stepped out Down Under, and spent plenty of time signing autographs at the premiere at Sydney's Event Cinemas.

The Heat, which has taken the US box office by storm, is due to be released in UK cinemas on July 31.
