Jim Carrey is set to breathe new life into comedy Ricky Stanicky.
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone star apparently decided to sign on once his long-time collaborator Steve Oedekerk, the screenwriter from Bruce Almighty and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, came on board to rewrite and direct the film, reported Deadline.
Originally written by Jeff Bushell, the long-developing comedy is about an imaginary persona called Ricky Stanicky, created by three teenagers to take the blame for their pranks. The trio still use the alibi to get out of uncomfortable situations 20 years on, and when their wives finally force them to confront Ricky, they have to hire an actor to play the part.
Jim is tipped to play the lead role of Ricky, which James Franco and Joaquin Phoenix were previously attached to.
Production on the film is expected to start this summer.
The Canadian actor will next appear in Kick-Ass 2 as Colonel Stars and Stripes.
