Jim Carrey could be competing against Steve Carell in the comedy Burt Wonderstone.
The two funnymen are said to be in talks to star in Don Scardino's upcoming film, with Steve set to play a traditional Las Vegas magician who finds himself upstaged by a rival - and "hip street magician" - who is stealing his thunder, reported Deadline.
Mr Popper's Penguins actor Jim is tipped to portray the rival illusionist.
Steve has said that his character would be slightly unlikeable, explaining: "This movie is a bigger, broader comedy. This Vegas magician is sort of a jerk, he's sort of a jerky magician so that will be a little different."
It would be a reunion for both comic stars, who previously shared screen time in Horton Hears A Who! and Bruce Almighty. Jim also made a cameo appearance in the season finale of the US version of The Office before Steve's exit.
Steve is set to produce Burt Wonderstone, which has been rewritten by Jason Reitman, under his Carousel production company.
