Channing Tatum confirmed as Gambit

Channing Tatum will play mutant Gambit in his own movie

Channing Tatum has been confirmed to star as Gambit in an X-Men spin-off movie.

The Jupiter Ascending star has previously expressed an interest in playing the mutant superhero and revealed he had met with X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner.

Now Lauren has confirmed to Total Film: " It is Channing."

She revealed she thinks the Magic Mike star has all the right qualities to play the comic book character Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit, whose mutant power enables him to mentally create, control and manipulate pure kinetic energy.

Lauren said: "He's a rogue, he's a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau. He can handle the action, as we know, and he's got a real good heart, I know him personally.

"He'll be great for Gambit, and he's a southerner too, he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans."

The film will be a stand-alone movie about the character.

Taylor Kitsch previously played Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
