Jessica Chastain has said her character in new movie Lawless is "the aggressor" - especially when it comes to romantic scenes with Tom Hardy.
Jessica plays the mysterious Maggie, who arrives in a small Virginian community in the 1930s and strikes up a relationship with bootlegger Forrest Bondurant, played by Tom.
"I really got the relationship between Forrest and Maggie, because she becomes the aggressor in it, she takes the aggressive power position," the actress explained.
"She's used to men preying upon her, she's used to that kind of relationship with men, and when she meets Forrest he really sits back and doesn't know how to handle Maggie."
She added: "She's not the weak one sitting back and waiting for him to choose her, she actually chooses him, and chooses her life."
Lawless, directed by Australian film-maker John Hillcoat, also stars Shia LaBeouf, Mia Wasikowska, Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman.
"It's sex, drugs and rock and roll, this film," Jessica laughed.
