Chastain, Redgrave join Scripture

Jessica Chastain and Vanessa Redgrave are set to star in a film adaptation of the book The Secret Scripture.

The Zero Dark Thirty actress and The Butler star have signed up for the movie version of Sebastian Barry's novel, reported IFTN.

Jessica, 36, and Vanessa, 76, will play the same character - a woman who is confined to a mental institution in Ireland and keeps a diary of her time there - at different ages.

Irish screenwriter Johnny Ferguson penned the screenplay in 2012 but died this year.

Producer Noel Pearson, who was Oscar-nominated for 1990's My Left Foot starring Daniel Day-Lewis, said: "That motivated me a lot to get it made.

"The Secret Scripture is a wonderful novel. The thing about Johnny's script is it's very character-driven and actor-driven, and it wouldn't work without the right actors. So we're lucky to have Jessica Chastain and Vanessa Redgrave."

Shooting is due to start in June 2014.
