Chastain to explore Martian role?

Jessica Chastain could be set to take the female lead in new sci-fi film The Martian.

Zero Dark Thirty star Jessica is reportedly in talks to join the cast, which would see her star opposite Matt Damon and be directed by Ridley Scott, according to Variety.

The Martian is based on the e-book by Andy Weir about an astronaut who gets stranded on Mars and has to find a way to survive until he is rescued and can get back home.

Jessica can be seen later this year in A Most Violent Year, an 80s thriller set in New York during one of the city's most violent periods, due to be released on December 31.

In November she can be seen alongside Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Michael Caine in Interstellar, a sci-fi film about explorers who have to make use of a new wormhole to conquer the vast distances involved in space travel.
