Child star of Beasts back in bayou

Quvenzhane Wallis had her debut in the recent film Beasts Of The Southern Wild

Child star Quvenzhane Wallis has insisted finding fame with Beasts Of The Southern Wild has not changed her.

The nine-year-old won over the hearts of cinema-goers and film critics this year with her portrayal of a little girl living in the southern Delta with her ailing father as a storm approaches.

But the actress said: "I'm just normal. I'm just this girl who always fights with her brothers, like normal, always tackles the big dog that's always in the house, like normal."

Quvenzhane - who also appears in upcoming film Twelve Years A Slave - is being tipped for Golden Globe and Oscar nods for her performance.

"I actually had to learn what an Oscar was," she confessed. "I call him 'the golden man'."

As for the awards she has already picked up - which include a New Hollywood Award - Quvenzhane, the youngest of four children, said: "I'm just like, OK I got an award, nice to know. And then I just go back to what I do."
