Chris Pine heading for Finest Hours

Chris Pine is in talks to play the hero in The Finest Hours.

The Disney project is based on the true story of a 1952 rescue effort by coast guards to save the crews of two oil tankers that crashed into each other off the coast of New England.

Variety reported that Jack Ryan star Chris is in negotiations to take a starring role.

Craig Gillespie, who directed the 2011 remake of Fright Night, is in talks to take the helm.

Tim Van Patten, who has directed episodes of HBO's Boardwalk Empire, Game Of Thrones and The Sopranos had previously been linked to the project.

American Gangster's Jim Whitaker will produce the movie.
